150 What?

As part of my job, I try to get the local teens interested in reading. I've started a betting contest where they guess when I'll finish reading 150 (yes 150, it's not a typo) books from my teen section here at the library and the ten who picks the correct day I finish will get a free pizza. I started reading on December 1, 2010. Can I finish that many books before May? Who knows, cause I sure don't! As I read I'll be posting what I've read and what's coming up.

Here's what I've already read?

I don't have time to write full out reviews, you can assume that if I don't say anything at all then the books were good and totally wortha read. So far I've liked them all. Wildwing wasn't one of my favorites, I had trouble getting into it at the beginning and Mockingjay, the third and final book of the Hunger Games series wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, It was still good. I think its outshined by the previous volumes in the series though.

A Giant Cheese

No, not me though my sense of humor might be considered a little bit (or a whole lot depending on who you’re talking to) cheesy. I went to the cracking open of a giant wheel of parmesan cheese at a Whole Foods store last weekend. At 3pm my time the people at whole foods opened around 300 wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano at 176 stores worldwide. It was interesting. OF course they gave out free samples of the cheese after it had been opened which was also good. Here are some pics.

...has never been so true as it is for me today. At least in my opinion anyway. I've got papers to write, projects to finish and other class work to do. I've got apt stuff to get done and laundry to do before the cousin who invited herself to stay with me this weekend (but doesn't know if she's actually gonna make it)shows up. I've gotta pick up the child of another cousin from daycare tomorrow cause they both work too late to get her and there's no one else to do it. I need to clean out my truck badly and well, somewhere in there i'm supposed to tutor a couple of people as well as find time to work out.

Is it any wonder that I don't get enough sleep?

It's Finished!!!

I finally forced myself to finish the Spiderman Blanket!!! I think that it turned out really well. MY cousin is gonna love it!

The edging was different. I've never had to do a reverse crochet stitch for anything before, but once I got the hang of it, it moved right along. I'm just glad to be finished. Form now on I'm only making afghans that can be made in strips and sewn together.

Spiderman Update

I'm still not done. That's it. That's all the update I've got. I've got 5 rows and some webbing to go until I'm finished and I've hit crochet block. Just can't get up the gumption to do any more. I'm taking a break. I think I'll knit myself a sweater and when I need a break from it I'll pick the blanket back up. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do... Oh, and finish that pair of socks that has been mocking me for weeks!

So I went Camping

Now anyone who knows me knows that I don't do camping. My idea of roughing it is staying at a cheap motel.

Well, I did it. 2 weeks ago, I went camping at an SCA event near Cleveland. To prove it here is a picture of me in the tent. There's also a picture, of course it's the day we were leaving so I'm not exactly dressed for camping. And thank god the people who's farm we were camping on had a shower. I can live with the sleeping bag and mat in the tent, but I can't live without the shower. A picture of some of the SCA folks is also below. It was lots of fun. Especially the bardic circles where everyone told stories and/or sang songs until well into the night.

The NEW/OLD Truck

After the freak hail storm during 77 degree weather, the insurance company totaled my car. I spent a week (cause that's how long I had the rental car) stressing, trying to find a car and keep up with the massive amounts of homework I have to do.

Here is the end result. I am now the owner of a 1990 Ford Ranger. People think I'm nuts because it has no Air Conditioning. But the price was right and it only has 97K miles on it. I figure we only really have like 2 months of summer around here anyway. It'll do and I'll manage until I finish school and can sell or trade it in for something newer.

Shattered Car Window

I went to get my cousin whose car wouldn't start earlier

this afternoon. Followed her to the mechanics and waited until she was taken care of and started following her back to her place to make sure she didn't have anymore problems. While we were on the freeway headed to her place (she and the baby in her car and me following) It started to rain heavily and to hail.

OF course there wasn't anywhere to stop and we were about 10/15 min from her place so we had to keep going. The hail increased in size until it was about half the size of a baseball. It was so big and there was so much of it that it shattered the back window on my car. Here's what I saw afterwards when I could turn and get a good look.

And of course the floor boards were full of water.

This is all of the glass that we managed to get off of the seats and floor so that I could go at it with a shop-vac. It's nuts I tell ya!

Knitting in the bathtub...

No, not me! I was watching music videos on GAC (That's "Great American Country for all you non-country music fans) and lo and behold, what did I see, Jessica Harp, formerly part of "The Wreckers" with Michelle Branch, knitting in a bathtub. Of course, I'm guessing she doesn't actually knit because if something I or anyone I know who knits, looked like her piece we'd be hyperventilating or having a heart attack and frogging back. But hey, she's in the bathtub, wearing this, from what I can see, awesome black dress with giant purple needles and hot pink knitting which someone had to take the time and care to knit up to that point.

I say, "LONG LIVE KNITTING!"

This is what I do. My cousin brought her 2 year old over tonight and only brought 1 outfit. "unfortunately, she is in the process of potty training and forgot to bring extra diapers so the clothes got, shall we say, soiled. Without extra clothes, this is my answer. I grabbed a shoestring, a pillowcase and a pair of scissors.

Who needs MacGyver when I'm around!?!

Relay for Life

I participated in Relay for life out in Westfield, Indiana yesterday. As you can see, it was freezing out, only around 64 degrees which would have been great if it hadn't been so windy.There was a large turnout. My group however didn't walk. We were the first team ever to knit instead of walk.

I know its been awhile but I'm back. I've been mad busy with all the stuff for classes. There is definitely a reason that full time for grad school is 9 credit hours. (technically 8 but who takes 8 hrs. all the classes are worth 3hrs. Hello!) But I finished the semester last week,. now I'm just waiting to start the summer session.

I'm also moving this weekend. found an apartment. The only problem is that I was told that there's some stuff to do b4 I move in like get the utilities turned on, but they mailed the info out to me last week when I was approved and I haven't received the info yet. You'd think, right, that someone would have held the letter at the office for me what with move in being such a short time in the future,but no. Why would anyone be logical about anything.

Ridiculous

Oh and I've decided that birthdays are just there so you can realize how many people could care less about you. Maybe I'll just disown my B-day and tell people I don't have one when they ask.

In the interest of trying something new, I'm going to start posting about things I like periodically. Obviously, each post is going to be titled "I"M DIGGIN IT..." with whatever it is I'm currently diggin' on at the moment.

"THE FRAMES" are my current music pick of the moment and let me say, I am definitely diggin' them.

They're an Irish Rock Band primarily based out of Dublin (I've always wanted to go to Ireland and I just keep finding new and better reasons :D )

Brian Selznick is AWSOME!!!

In January I went to a Youth Literature Conference on campus and I met Nikki Grimes and Brian Selznick. Both were great. I really enjoyed Brian's presentation though. He even showed a silent movie complete with his own version of the narration. It was freakin' hilarious.

I bought a book that he illustrated called "When Marian Sings". The artwork is amazing. And if you haven't read it yet, you should definitely read "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" which he both wrote and illustrated.

Last Weekend was eventful!

So Last weekend was the first weekend that I didn't have to go back to the Fort. You would think that after so many weekends of traveling, packing, moving, cleaning and storing that I would spend the weekend vegging out and doing homework. Is that what I did? No, I think not. Why would you ever think that I would do that?

No, First my best friend invites me to go to an all day SCA (that's Society for Creative Anachronism) event. OF course, me being me, I agree. Do I think about the fact that all of the costume stuff I have is packed up in storage back home? NO. So I arrive at her house at around 7:50 (I overslept). Well, after telling her I have no costume she says "Don't worry. I've got something for you" which worries me because she's half my size and I never know what she's gonna pull out of her stuff. Then I find out that I, as well as her brother, am driving because of a program that I've invited her to down at the Central Library that evening from 6-10pm. But that's ok. What's not OK, is getting the directions right before we leave and finding out 5min after that its in Greenfield, In which is 45 FREAKIN' minutes away.

Well, here's what I ended up wearing. Thank God her brother had his wool cloak and let me borrow it because it was FREEZING!

Add into that, the fact that it was an archery related event and I'd never even seen an actual bow and arrow in person before and just imagine the possibilities. When I told my dad that they gave me a bow and arrow, his immediate response was "Isn't that dangerous?". Of course he meant for them, not me LOL. Lets me tell you, I wasn't that bad. My 1st shot only missed by 1/2 a foot and I actually hit the target on my second try. It was exciting. I'm not really your jump up and down, squealing with excitement kind of girl but there was jumping and squealing.Here I am with my borrowed bow and arrow!

Moving on with the day, we left and went to the Central Library in Indianapolis for their evening with the artists program. It was from 6 to 10:30pm.

She did it really quickly too! This is just what would fit on my scanner so some of the edges are missing from the pic.

Around 8pm we decided we were hungry, but we didn't want to move the car so we walked 10 really, really long blocks (each way) down near the circle in downtown Indy. The final decision to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings was well worth the walk. We took the time to see some of the awesome recycled tire art that is currently downtown.

CRAP ON A CRACKER!!!

Ok, so I'm actually starting to understand this cataloging stuff. Well, maybe not understand, but I'm getting it somewhat. Don't get me wrong, I'm still completely flummoxed but hey, ya gotta learn somewhere!

My current problem is notes. How do you know what to put in the notes field. I'm sitting with "AACR2" aka "the cataloging bible" aka "THE BIG ASS BOOK OF CATALOGING" (ok, I totally made that last one up. Of course it IS a big ass book. Actually it's a whole lot of pages in a 500sheet holding binder. It's also freakishly heavy. You can't even pick it up with one hand!

Not that that has anything to do with my current frustration. I'm sitting here with "THE GIANT BINDER OF DEATH" trying to figure out what to put into the notes field for the book I'm trying to catalog. And let me tell you, even with the "THE TERMINATOR OF ALL BOOKS" sitting in my lap, and looking through it multiple times, I'm at a loss. I know what I'd like to put into the notes, but I'm just not sure how to do it.

Which leads me to the title of this post. I'm trying to stop cursing since one of my new roomies is only gonna be 2yrs old in a couple of months. The whole not cursing thing is not an option unless I find new things to say when I'm frustrated. My current favorite is "crap on a cracker/stick". It's all I've got. I really need more choices. but here it is again...Just insert me yelling if you know me "CRAP ON A FREAKIN' DRIED UP, CRUMBLY, MOLDY CRACKER!!!!!!!!!"

Gotta run! Still have to figure out this note thing!

Ok, so I saw Rick Springfield on "Don't Forget the Lyrics" tonight and now I think I may be obsessed. I've spent the last couple of hours on Youtube and Yahoo Music listening to his music and I find that I'm particularly obsessed with the song "Jesse's Girl". I always thought that it was a good song, but now I feel like listening to it on repeat. If it's wrong, I think I don't wanna be right. At least not until Monday ;D

Sesame Street and Tina Fey

So, I'm babysitting this morning and we're watching Sesamee Street All of a sudden a pirate ship pulls up and Tina Fey and a couple of muppets jump off and say "we b comin' for your book"! lol. Apparently, they're not buccaneers. They're "Book-a-neers" and they're the "pirates of the Care-to-be-readin' " lol. Too funny. I don't know what's worse, the fact that the Sesame Street theme song apparently got remixed or that I actually thought it was funny. Oh well. my sense of humor was always twisted anyway. :) I liked it. Maybe I'm just a kid at heart.

X-MEN ORIGINS : Wolverine

OK, So I was online just now and I stumbled across something great. It's the preview for the new X-Men Movie. From the title you can see that it's an origin movie about Wolverine (who is my favorite out of all the X-Men). I've seen the preview and I must say that it looks Fridiculously Awesome!

Well, I'm in Indianapolis today and we had our first day of orientation for the LLID fellowship. Contracts were signed. Introductions were given "over and over again" (to quote Nelly and Tim McGraw). Important information was given and a tour of the Indiana State Library was given. The library was very impressive. Tomorrow we'll be spending the day in the SLIS(School of Library and Information Science) department.

There is just so much to do in order to be ready when classes start. Packing, housing arrangements, storage arrangements and all the other little things I haven't thought of yet. Add in that everything needs to be done before the 12th of January and it almost seems like a fridiculous amount of stuff to get done. (Fridiculous is my new made up word. It's short for "Freekin' Ridiculous" :D ) There's a lot to do and not a lot of time to get things done in. But I'll manage and I will get everything done if it kills me.

My New Website and Graduate School

The New Site
I'm writing a website. Not so much because I want to, but more because of necessity. I'm trying to get a waiver for a class that I took back when I did my undregraduate degree. Unfortunately, the website I used to have was shut down ages ago because I didn't have time to keep it updated. I'm not sure yet where I'll choose to host the site. Probably some place like Yahoo that has free hosting.

In the meantime, I'm spending my Thanksgiving holiday writing in HTML. I'll probably try to keep it simple since I was never a big fan of those super complicated sites that have so much information they give you a headache. I never was one of those people to go in for all the code generating software you could use to make your site, so, like back in the day, I will be writing everything out in Notepad. I have to say, that so far, this was so much more fun back when I was still down at IU in Bloomington. I remember writing out webpages on paper in other classes when I was bored in order to stay awake. Now, It's just something I have to do. Maybe I'll keep this website after I make it. I might actually have more time while I'm going back to school.

Well regardless, I will post a link to the site once it's officially set up.

Graduate School
I'm all registered for classes now. I'm set to take reference, cataloging and collection development classes. I only have to get my hoiusing set up now. but so far so good.

Male Crocheter Spotted

Ok, this post has been edited because I of all people should have thought about the fact that you crochet doilies, not knit them. My only excuse is that I was really tired and it was really late when I wrote this post. but now it's been correccted!

OK, so a friend, knowing how I love spotting men knitting, crocheting or any other crafty pastime and showing them as wonderful examples of how general craftiness is not just for women, sent me this picture recently. She apparently took it over the summer and forgot to send it to me. Anyway I don't know who he is, or even where he was but I am told that he was crocheting a doily. Too Much TV

So My Mother told me today that I watch too much tv. I said that at least I'm not out runnin' the streets. She pretty much looked me in the eyes and said the equivalent of "I need Grandkids. Stop watchin' tv and go run the streets." So there you have it folks. Instead of chillin' at home and watchin tv, instead of spending time at Sarah Jane's Yarn Shoppe knitting preemie hats for the babies at the hopital, I am supposed to go run the streets and sleep around so my mother can be a grandma....and we wonder why I'm different

The travels of Edson Bear

I'm participating in a teddy bear swap. There are ten people located in different states and we each send a bear until it makes it's way around the circle and back to us. My bear is named Edson Bear and this is him. He is, of course a librarian and loves to read. He received his MLS (masters in Library Science from the IU Bearville campus. Like me, he floats around to the various branches of the Allen County Public Library organizing carts, shelving books, checking in returned materials and being generally helpful. Though he does have to stretch sometimes. (those books can get mighty heavy when they're twice your size)

Of course, he came to the Knit In at Sarah Jane's Yarn Shoppe before he left and unfortunately had a little too much fun before he left. We all tried to stop him. Told them that wasn't the way to start a trip, but he wouldn't listen. hopefully he's doing much better on his trip. Currently he's in Illinois. I'll post some updates about his travels soon.

So lately I've gotten into knitting socks. and while I normally wouldn't jump on the clear shoe bandwagon, I do understand the whole "why have really cool handmade socks if no one can see them" thing. I really would never go the clear plastic boot route either. I'd like to think I'm a little too cool for that. But now I think the issue has been solved. A way to have cool shoes combined with clear ones. Journey's is exclusively carrying a pair of low top clear Converse All Stars. I ask you ,"Could a clear pair of shoes be any cooler?" I think not. I might just have to buy a pair!

I Passed the GRE!!!

So, I finally got my official scores back from ETS (the testing people that administer the GRE) . Anyway, I already knew what I'd gotten on the math and verbal sections but I was waiting to find out my scores for the essays. I had to get a certain combined average score between the two. I got exactly the score I needed so I won't have to take it again!!

Knit In, GRE tests, Giant Zucchini's and Chalk Walk..OH MY!!!!

The July Friday night Knit In at Sarah Jane's Yarn Shoppe was awesome! Even though I was only able to stay until midnight.

I had to leave early because on Saturday Morning at freakin 8am I was scheduled to take the GRE .(That's the Graduate Record Examination that I had to take to get into grad school.) The goal was to get at least a 500 on the quantitative reasoning and on the verbal sections. I ended up with a 540 Quantitative and 610 verbal. Now I'm just waiting for them to mail me my official scores so I can find out how I did on the essay part of the test. I need at least a 4.5 average between the two essays I had to write.

After I left the test I went to lunch at the Dash In downtown. Apparently, once a year, a polish woman comes in during the Three Rivers Festival and they have an entire polish menu for the day. It was great!

The Fort Wayne Museum of Art Chalk Walk was also Saturday and Sunday. So all in all it was a super long week!

I took some pictures of course, at least until the batteries in my camera died. here they are. The first one is the 8ft X 8ft square that I did. The theme is a little obvious. :P

The second pic is the one my best friend did ( I feel like I'm a bit old to be calling her my bff. gotta come up with something better.)

new projects and updates

I haven't written anything in a bit, so here's an update. I scheduled to take the GRE on July 12th and the studying is a pain in the butt. I'm also participating in the Fort Wayne Museum of Art's Chalk Walk which is held the same weekend as my test. Talk about having to multitask. I'm trying to study and plan out a pic all at the same time. I have decided that my theme for the chalk walk will be "Peace, Love, Knit". Still working up a drawing though.

I've finished knitting my dad a sweater and then proceeded to make my first knitted hat to match the sweater (I had leftover yarn)

I've also been hanging out with my friend Laura. We went to this buffet called the Tokyo Buffett for lunch last week. When we left I made her go across the street to the Marathon Gas station and take pics with the giant Brouster(sp?) chicken they had parked in the lot. :D

I also finished knitting my first pair of socks!
The Knit In at Sarah Jane's was great this month. We actually stayed until about 4:30am. (it started at 7pm). I really think I could've left about an hour before I did, but I got into one of those autopilot knitting ruts and couldn't make myself stop. I'm going to knit some preemie hats and make some more socks next. We'll see how that goes. :D

Lori also tells me that blogs pop up in a list for her to read anytime someone on Ravelry mentions the full name of her shop, so I jokingly told her I'm going to end all my blog entries with this...so until next time "I just love Sarah Jane's Yarn Shop!!!"

OK, so I woke up this morning in a super awesome mood. I visited Mom and Grandma and ran a few errands without any problems. I haven't heard a single bad song on the radio all day. I even heard some of my favorite songs today that I haven't heard in years! (Remember that song by New Found Glory (i think) I believe the title is "Fight for your honor". I just love that song, and it was played to. I haven't heard it in forever.

Add in a great hair day, a cute outfit, and awesome shoes and you have to wonder does the day really get better? I have to tell you that YES the day does indeed get better. I stopped in at Sarah Jane's Yarn Shoppe to show Linda, one of the owners, my first sock (that's right people "I'M KNITTING SOCKS!!!" And who do you think is in the store? Debbie Macomber, the author of many books, including the Blossom street series and whose newest book "Twenty Wishes" is wonderful was IN THE STORE! I talked to her, she admired my knitting and said how beautiful it was. How much better can a day get! I don't know myself, but maybe when I take my dinner break tonight, I better go buy a couple of lottery tickets just to be on the safe side :D

10 things to do now that I'm 30!

Well, I've finally reached the big 3-0 so I decided to make a list of things that I should do now.

Here goes...

1. Start carrying some cash. It was brought to my attention that people under 30 rarely carry cash. So now I have to carry some. (Cash that is)

2. Apparently I should read more nonfiction. (Probably won’t, but I’ll put it on the list anyway)

3. Buy a house and start doing yard work (As If)

4. Take up knitting (oh wait, I already did that)

5. Stop making fun of people

6. Hang out in bars instead of clubs and drink more adult type beverages.

7. Wear longer skirts and looser shirts (in other words, dress like my grandma)

8. Stock up on anti-wrinkle cream.

9. Watch more documentaries about the weather channel.

10. Delete my account on and truly embrace the joy that is

...and submitted my grad school application and registered to take the GRE. That's a $50 fee for the application and another $140 fee to take the test, which i will be taking on July 12. You'd almost think they were trying to keep people from taking the darn test. Is it really necessary that it's that much? I think I'm in payment shock right now.

I have to really get down to the whole studying thing now. So if no one other than the people at worrk see me, or if I look distracted, you'll know why.

Well, I've finished one project (except for blocking and buttons) and started another. The finished one is Knitty's Wisp shawl. Hopefully it will end up bigger once I block it.

and I'm also working on Lankakomero's Terrtu Shawl for a thing at work. I'm about 53 rows in and counting! I'm gonna have to buy some circular needles this size though, cause I'm running out of room!!!

Male Knitters are everywhere!!!

Sitting at the Fort Wayne Stitch Down I looked up and in walks Warren! Another Male Knitter!!! That's just the greatest. He came and joined us for the Knit In while his wife scoured the library for reading material. Now normally that works the other way around. The wife knits while the husband searches the library. I think the role reversal is definitely awesome. Warren, who happens to be a college professor also knits during tests and says he told his students that "yes, he knits. Deal with it." If only all male knitters would be so bold. I just love it.

And just for all you guys out there, I'll quote Warren for you more paraphrased than exact though. . He says "I wish I'd known about this when I was younger! It works better than puppies for attracting the ladies!"

So, Charleton Heston died this past weekend. He was best know for playing Ben Hur and Also Moses. This may be good or bad, depending on how you look at it, but when I think of Moses, I don't actually think of the epic movie even of the book in the bible. The words "Moses supposes his toeses are roses, but Moses Supposes Eroniously" come to mind which then take me back to rainy afternoons that would be spent watching "Singing in the Rain" on our Betamax player. I know y'all remember those! Anyway, this si the scene I always flash to.

Elusive Male Knitter Spotted at Borders

Spotted in a Fort Wayne, Indiana Borders Bookstore!!!

Yes! It's true!!! That elusive creature has finally been spotted out in public. Men really do knit!!! I've been telling people this for ages, but no one ever believes me. Now there is proof out there. (and I'm even in the picture so no one can say it's "digitally enhanced knitting" ;-D) Men in the year 2008 actually knit. There's other proof out there such as websites like "Men Who Knit" and MenKnit.net who also has a nice history of knitting posted, complete with pictures. Now I won't go into the history of men knitting, but only because I only get an hour for lunch and eating during lunch is always a good thing. There are however plenty of great resources online for and about male knitters. Ravelry has several men's knitting groups as well. If you're a member you should check them out, they have some great projects on them. Gotta go for now. The Knit It Down Hoodie

I found this pattern in a recent issue ofCreative Knitting Maagazine. The pattern is called "Knit it down" It wasn't actually a hoodie, but I didn't like the collar that was on it. And so it becane a hoodie. It was my first "top down" anything. I liked the way it worked up. Anyway, here it is. I was working on it as part of the Ebony Elite KCAL. Not including the needles I had to purchase, it really only cost me about $15 and a whole lot of time to make. Here it is.

One of the sleeves is rolled up here. It's not actually shorter than the other one :D

Runescape

OK, The kids are always on the computers playing Runescape. So I decided to see what all the fuss was about. I went to the site www.runescape.com . I signed up. (There's a free service and paying member service) So reason #1 the kids like it would be they can play for free.

Now, I have my little person and I've been playing in the tutorial world. I've done things like chop down trees for firewood, start a fire, catch shrimp in a pond, cook the shrimp in the fire and bake bread. I've also learned how to travel around the world and in the process, been taught how to mine for ore and make weapons, fight against ROUS's ("Rodents Of Unusual Size" for those of you who never saw "The Princess Bride") Ok, they just call them giant Rats, but I like ROUS's better. And I've also been taught to put items I don't want to lose if my person dies into the bank. Currently I'm at a point where a financial adviser is explaining to me how I can get more fictional money within the game.

In all honesty, I have to say that this is a game, that if not careful, I myself might get caught up in. I could seriously see my self playing it for hours just like my friend and I used to play Everquest when I was in college. In fact, I think that Runescape bears more than a passing resemblance to Everquest, or as we used to call it "EverCrack" :D

I have to say, that there is definately more to this game than I thought, and I haven't even gone on one of the quests yet. Overall. I actually like it and I can understand what the kids see in it too. You've got action, adventure, money making and also general survival in what can be life and death situations for your character. (Yes they can die, but they get reborn back at the beginning so you can learn from your mistakes) Of course, in the process you may lose some of your precious items you've collected and not stored in the bank.

Yup, I could totally see myself playing Runescape just to play it instead of trying to see what all of the hubbub is about.

OK, I've been playing around with Facebook for the last week or so. I can understand how so many people think of it as a more grownup alternative to MySpace. I personally find that MySpace is a little simpler as far as how it's organized and it's also less complicated to manipulate and work with. I do like both sites and plan to continue to use them, I have decided, at least at this point though, that I like MySpace better. Maybe because I'm more used to it, but I definitely think it's more basic and user friendly than Facebook. Therefore MySpace has my vote!

OK, so the title really has nothing to do with today's blog. It was just something humorous that popped out of my mouth yesterday. At least I thought it was funny.

On sort of the same note, my best friend and I were talking the other day, and she tells me that she lost her cell phone again, but it's OK because she found it. She loses it all the time. I don't know how she can possibly live without her phone. I think I'd go into some kind of withdrawal. Well anyway, I made the mistake of asking her where, and she says "In my pants" I don't really know why it was funny, but take my word, between the words, her tone of voice and just the way she said it, it was hilarious.

When Boredom ensues you get Crocheted Hat Hair

This is just something silly I made one night when I was bored. A friend and I were discussing the phenomenon that is hat hair and how it is never good. I got to thinking that you could have good hat hair if you made it yourself, then you could make any style you want. (yeah, I should always get plenty of sleep right!?!) Well I got to thinking and then I got to doing and this is what happened.

Here's how I made it...

Start with a magic circle.

Row 1 Dc 10 times around and join together. (10 stitches)

Row 2 ch 3 and dc in same stitch. Dc 2 times in each remaining stitch around and join (20 stitches)

Row 3 ch 3 and dc in same stitch. *1 Dc in next stitch. 2dc in following stitch* repeat from *to* around. Join.

Row 4 ch 3 and dc in same stitch. *1 Dc in next 2 stitch. 2dc in following stitch* repeat from *to* around. Join.

Row 5 ch 3 and dc in same stitch. *1 Dc in each of the next 3 stitches. 2dc in following stitch* repeat from *to* around. Join.

Row 6 ch 3 and dc in same stitch. *1 Dc in each of the next 4 stitches. 2dc in following stitch* repeat from *to* around. Join. (at this point keep increasing the number of single dc stitches by one every row until it’s wide enough to fit your head. In my case it took 2 more rows because I have a giant head It may take less for you if your head is smaller. Think of it as if you're starting the top part of a circular beanie. You increase in the same way until you would normally start doing one in each stitch all the way around. )

Row 7 ch 3 and dc in same stitch. *1 Dc in each of the next 5 stitches. 2dc in following stitch* repeat from *to* around. Join.

Row 8 ch 3 and dc in same stitch. *1 Dc in each of the next 6 stitches. 2dc in following stitch* repeat from *to* around. Join.

Row 9 ch 3 and dc in same stitch. *1 Dc in each of the next 7 stitches. 2dc in following stitch* repeat from *to* around. Join.

Row 10 ch 3 and dc in same stitch. *1 Dc in each of the next 8 stitches. 2dc in following stitch* repeat from *to* around. Join.

Row 11 chn 3 (counts as first dc). Dc in each stitch around. Join.

Row 12 Ok, now what you need to do is figure out how wide you want the bangs to be. [/i]Ch 3. (counts as first dc) I Double crocheted 26 times. You may do more or less depending on how big around your hat is and how wide you want the bangs to be. Sc in the next stitch.. (You may want to mark the last dc )Now you start your shells. Slip stitch in next stitch. * Skip the next stitch and do 5dc in the following stitch. Skip a stitch and slipstitch in the next 2 stitches. *repeat from *to* until you have the number of shells you need for your bangs. I used 4 shells for mine. At the end of your last shell only slip stitch once. Sc in the next stitch and then dc in each of the remaining stitches and join when you reach the very 1st dc you made for the row. (Mark the first dc after your last shell.) Fasten off. (I fastened off here because I wanted to work the rest of the hat as a single row and I couldn't figure out how to do it with it ending in the middle of the back.)

Ok, now we start the rest of the hair!

Join the same color yarn into one of the dc stitches that you marked. Ch 3. (counts as first dc of row) dc in next stitch and each stitch across ending at the other marked dc. Ch 3 and turn.

Do each row the same. When you get to about the sixth row, do two dc in each of the end stitches and repeat the row before with just one each a few more times. You can do the 2 in each end piece on as many rows as you want. It’s kind of up to you. I did it so it would make it gradually angle forward more, but you can do yours straight or decrease so that it rounds off more. I hope this makes sense. I think it’s pretty much an adaptable pattern so you can kind of customize it to you.

And that's how you make this version of hat hair! You can edit it and change it so it looks different for different days.

Gmail and iGoogle

OK, so I realized I had strayed from my Library2.0 path and decide that I should tackle all things Google. I signed up for Gmail, even though I really didn't think I needed yet another email address, and I played around in iGoogle. Both were interesting. I can see the point of Gmail if I can get my other addresses to forward mail to it (of course it wouldn't work the first time I tried it). But that's just my luck, or lack thereof at work. I don't know that I would really use iGoogle much though. I don't have a computer at home so I wouldn't set it up as my homepage, especially with me jumping from branch to branch like I do. Who knows, maybe it'll get more interesting.

Is it possible? You tell me? I decided to rearrange furniture about a week ago. As we all know, when moving bookshelves, you have to take all the books off. So I decided that if I was gonna take all the books off the shelves, I would at least organize them so they could be found. Then I decided to make a sort of informal catalog so that I would know exactly what I own and not purchase multiple copies of the same book. Then it went on to putting the first letter of the authors last name on the spine so that I could easily keep them in order in the future. Now, I haven't cataloged the hardback books yet, but here's pictures of my shelves, keep in mind, I've been so distracted all week by the books that the rest of the room has been neglected and random things that formerly resided on the shelves are currently strewn all over the floor. So my plan of turning happy meal toys into Christmas ornaments has been postponed until I clean up my living room thoroughly. lol. anyway, here's some pics. Maybe, when I finish (cleaning that is), I'll post my list of books too.

So, back to my first question...

Well, after some thought, I decide that if I were to be a book I'd be one by one of 2 authors.

1st. Something by Dr. Suess, because his books are easy to read, they tend to rhyme, they always have great advice and teach you something, and of course, his books can tend to get a bit long winded. :) If I had to choose just one, I'd be torn between 2.

One is about a character who stands up for what he believes in and the other tells you that you can accomplish anything you put your mind too.

As for the other author, I'd have to be one of Terry Pratchett's books about Xanth. I don't know if I could choose just one though. They're good stories that are full of silliness in the form of puns. I just love them!!

After Thansgiving Madness!!!

OK, so most people know that I, along with the other ladies in my family shop after Thanksgiving. Not just regular shopping, but standing outside of the store at 4:30am type shopping. This year I was actually slightly injured. At the first store I went to (the one me and the fam met up at) a woman rammed her shopping cart into the back of my ankle, right where the Achilles tendon is. It hurt like _____ for days. I'm all better now though and I got all the good stuff I wanted at great prices and had fun with the fam too. Gotta love traditions. Every year, everyone comes to Fort Wayne for Thanksgiving and the girls go shopping on the day after while the guys stay home and watch football. The only drawback this year was that my grandma wasn't able to go. She just didn't feel up to it. Fortunately both she and my other grandma are now at there respective homes and not in the hospital anymore.

The pic with multiple people is my aunt, my cousins and then me (my mom hadn't shown up yet) and the other one is me and mom!

OK, the ladies in the green aren't related, but we saw them in Menards. There were actually about 5 of them and they were all wearing matching sweaters and shoes for their shopping trip. We decided collectively that if we ever get that serious about our shopping that an intervention will need to be done ;)

Well, my Grandma is in the hospital. According to my mom she has Pneumonia (how come we never pronounce the P? It's kinda a pointless letter in this word.). I went out to Parkview after work last night and stayed there till around 8:30/9pmish. Then had to shuffle my my mom to pick up my grandma's van and go do some grocery shopping for my Grandpa. Well needless to say long night...followed by another long day. I got up today at 5:30 and had to take my Grandpa's groceries to him at around 6:45am so that I could be out at Parkview to sit with my GRandma. Why you ask? Well, mostly because she's my Grandma, but partially because she was getting new carpet put in at the house (for Thanksgiving) and insisted my mom be at the house so I had to go so that my mom could be at the house when the carpet people got there. I was at the Hospital until 11amish when I had to leave because I had to grab a bite and drive to Woodburn where I'm working today until 9pm. Yayyyyyy me! (insert sarcasm here)

so I was an extra in this movie like 5 years ago and I helped with some of the costumes. It's a whole lot of silly and I never thought anything happened with it but today my friend sent me the link to the trailor. If you look really close when the warrior women are runnnign down the hill you might even be able to see me for a 1/4 of a second before I pass! lol. If they ever sell the dvd's I'm gonna buy copies and have a movie night!

I'm having a vacation of sorts this week! I was supposed to go out of town this week, but unfortunately my plans fell through. So instead, I still took the time off and now I'm having a vacation at home! Although I do find it funny that I'm vacationing from my full time job and working at my part time. lol. I don't get to do it too often because my #1 priority job wise is the library. I have been substitute teaching since way before I started working at the library, so I try to help them out when I have a day off since I know how badly they're always in need of subs. That's me, the workaholic. lol. I don't know what I'd do with myself if I ever won the lottery. I could never be that person that sits at home and does nothing all day. Too much energy to be lazy I think.

bringing the "Hooker" to LibraryHooker"

OK, so I haven't lived up to the "Hooker" part of my "Library Hooker" title yet. So today, I'm posting pics of a bunch of things I've made. Here's a few of my favorites!

First there's my Rastafarian Anteater, complete with tam! (2 pics so you can see his little hat!)He was the first stuffie I ever tried to make and with no pattern at all. I wasn't even sure what he was until after I gave him hair. :D Then of course,

Next you have a granny square scarf I gave my friend last Christmas. She loved it! Wonder how much she'll love the matching hat I'm making her for Christmas this year? He..He.. the gift that keeps on giving!

Let's see, you have the wonderful "Kirsten" doll I made my friend when she went to Africa last January. She wanted me to go and I couldn't, so sent another me with her! Notice the finely crafted Yarn Afro... We're just too much cuteness together!

The Fallen

So, a month or so ago I was sitting at my grandparents house watching tv.

We happened to start watching this 3-part made for tv movie on

ABC Family called "Fallen" I was checking to see if it was going to be released on DVD (for my grandmother, though it was good enough that I'd buy it for me.)

Anyway, I found out that it was based on a series of books by Tom Sneikoski entitled of course "The Fallen"

There are 4 books in the series and I'm currently reading #4.

I would suggest that everybody read these. They're really good. And if you ever find yourself with the opportunity to watch the movie, I'd definitely suggest it.

Strangest Kid Song Ever

OK, so I'm doing storytime tomorrow. And I'm going with the Oh so easy theme of the letter "M". I'm reading books like If you give a Moose a Muffin, Madeline and my all time favorite The Monster at the end of this book.
Well, I was told I should do a song. While looking up "M" songs on the internet, I come across this song called Mary Ann McCartney which is sung to the tune of the Battle hymn of the Republic. Not so bad right? Well then I read the lyrics. First I start laughing, then I show it to Ladonna and she starts laughing. I mean, The song says that little Mary Ann goes looking for clams but doesn't find any. It talks about her search for these clams and her continued lack of success, which,maybe, just might be cause by the chorus of the song which repeats the phrase "All she got was Influenza" . Now, color me wrong here, but who in their right mind would sing something like that to their own child, better yet someone else's kid?

So far we've been laughing about this song since about 3pm. We'll just be sitting here and one of us will break into the chorus and crack the other one up.

Google Mail

I've been thinking about starting a Google mail address. But every time I decide that I'm gonna do it. I realize that I already have Yahoo email, Hotmail email, work email, 2 MySpaces a Flickr account an Orkut and a craftster account that all come with user ids and passwords that I have to remember. Throw in My security code at work, my user id and pin for FWCS and don't forget that all important check card from the bank. then throw in all the telephone numbers I have to remember and do I really need another set of ids and passwords to remember? I really don't think so, but I know that I'll eventually give in and join the Gmail revolution.

So I tried to leave my apartment yesterday morning. The operative word there being "tried". How about I get into the car, because I'm running late, put the car into reverse and hear a scraping sound, so before I get a foot, I've stopped, put it in park and turned off the car. I'm thinking, "what the hell?". SO I get out of the car, and what do I see? This is what I see.

The bolts from my wheel, half covered in leaves, and the my car missing an ENTIRE wheel. No tire, no rim just my car, leaned and sitting on the ground. I mean, where do I live? New York? LA? Chicago? Do I even Live in Gary? NO. I live in Fort Wayne. So I repeat myself "What the Hell?" So now on my meager paycheck, I have to replace the entire thing, renew license plates, pay the car payment and did I mention that just this past weekend I had to replace the catalytic converter? Oh yeah. That's right. Does the cosmos think I'm made of money? Do I have to get a 3rd job?

Someday, this will probably be a funny story that I tell people about. But right now, I'm just pissed and I plan to stay that way for a while at least.

Windows Live Messenger

I opened Messenger up today, and of course none of the people I normally talk to are online. They never are when I am. What's the point in Messenger if the people you're gonna talk to are never on? I just don't know. Anyway the id for Lynn at ACPL pops up and I say "Hi Lynn" but it's not Lynn! It's Sara! Whom I like anyway, so...Not a disappointment at all! And then my friend in Brazil logged on and I got to say hello! YAYYYY!!!

So I'm switching this blog over to a new one. I needed a blog to track my progress for the library2.o thing we're doing at work, so I'm updating and changing this one. I've gone from plain, old, "What I've read" to the "Library Hooker". In case anyone wonders it's a combined title. I'm a Librarian and I crochet ....(with a hook). Big surprise right? So now, This blog will be for all things library and crafty that I want to talk about. I'm not going to delete my previous posts though. We'll just have to see if I'll really use this one any more than I did before.

Ok, I got it. I read it. It was wonderful! I know who dies and who doesn't, but I'm not gonna tell you. You'll just have to read it for yourself. My only problem is that it's the last book. i really hope J.K. Rowling starts another series of books and that they'll be as good as this. Right now i'm waiting for Christopher Paolini's third book. It better be good. We've been waiting for what feels like forever.

Ok, I've finally read this book. Picture this, Angel and Demon, both fond of livinvg in the world as it is. Impending Armageddon. What happens when the demons lose the antichrist and no one can find them. Throw in inept witchfinders and a book of prophecies that didn't sell because it's always correct and use your imagination. It wasn't quite as intertaining as some of his other books, but I liked it anyway. The conceept was interesting and the ending was great.

I’m not sure that this next series has an exact title so I’ll just call it the Tiffany Aching series. It’s about a young girl who is learning to be a witch and who has the help, sometimes wanted and sometimes not, of the Nac Mac Feegle. The Nac Mac Feegle aka Pictsies or the Wee Free Men or the Little Men, or “Person or Persons Unknown, Believed to be Armed” are a type of fairy (but don’t call them that) . Picture this, a person only in inches tall, with flaming red hair, blue skin, dressed in kilts with scottish accents and a love for getting drunk and fighting. The Feegles will fight anything up to and including themselves and each other. They have names like Rob Anybody, Daft Wullie, Awfully Wee Billy Bigchin, No'-As-Big-As-Medium-Sized-Jock-But-Bigger-than-Wee-Jock-Jock (yes that’s all one name) and Wee Dangerous Spike. They used to live in fairyland but according to them they left because they didn’t like it. Everyone else says they were kicked out for being drunk and fighting at 2 in the afternoon. This is a wonderful series. They are designated as books for young adults but I think people of any age will love them.
